Here is a pattern we see again and again: a brand raises its paid media budget, results flatten, and the team blames targeting. The real problem is usually simpler. There aren't enough ads to spend the money well.
Why more money needs more creative
Today's ad platforms do most of the targeting for you. What they need from you is options. Each new ad gives the algorithm a new way to find buyers. Run the same handful of ads on a bigger budget and you show them to the same people more often, which drives up cost and fatigue.
Questions to ask before you scale
- How many new ads will we launch each month, and was that number planned alongside the budget or after it?
- How fast can we test a new idea, from brief to live?
- How do we know when an ad is tired, and who decides to retire it?
- Do our winners turn into new versions, or do we start from scratch each round?
If your media plan is growing faster than your creative plan, the budget is starving. Feed it.
